The Ink Spots Unreleased Songs Lyrics
1.Address Unknown

ADDRESS UNKNOWN
The Ink Spots
Written by: Vaughn Horton/Denver Darling/Gene Autry

- #1 week of November 11, 1939

Address Unknown - not even a trace of you.
Oh what I'd give to see the face of you.
I was a fool to stay away from you so long.
I should have known there'd come a day when you'd be gone.

Address Unknown - oh how could I be so blind?
Who'd think that you would never be hard to find?
From the place of your birth to the ends of the earth
I've searched only to find - only to find - Address Unknown.

(Spoken:)
Address Unknown - honey chile, I ain't even got a trace of ya.
You know one thing?
I'd give anything in the world just to see the face of ya.
I was a fool to stay away from you and everything else so long.
I should have been diplomatic and figured that some day
You'd be solid gone.

Address Unknown - oh how could I be so blind?
Who'd think that you would never be hard to find?
From the place of your birth to the ends of the earth
I've searched only to find - only to find - Address Unknown.

2.Always

Always
The Ink Spots
Written by Irving Berlin

This version not released as a single
Five versions charted in 1926, two in 1944, and two more in
1945.

MONOLOGUE: I'll be loving you, babe, only always. With a real
crazy love that's
true always. When these dreams that you've planned.. need a
little helpin' hand,
well, say, honey, I'll understand always. Yeah, always! 'cause
things may not be
fair, always. But that's exactly when I'm gonna be true always.
Not for just sixty
minutes, not for twenty-four hours, not even for a whole darned
YEAR, three
hundred and sixty-five days, but I mean always!!

Things may not be fair always
That's when I'll be there always
Not for just an hour
And not for just a day
Not for just a year but always

3.Blues

Blues
The Ink Spots

This is a rather obscure song. Can't determine who wrote it and
whether anyone
ever charted it as a single in the Top 100. Judging by the
composition and the
lyrics, I'd guess it is a 1930's-type jazz/blues number
generally played by black
musicians. I found it on an Ink Spots 3-LP collection titled
'The Best Of the Ink
Spots' (Murray Hill label-Catalog # 897571. Unfortunately, there
are no liner notes
or writer credits included.

I'm goin back home and get my ham bone boiled some more
(choo-choo-ah, choo-choo-ah)
I'm goin back home and get my ham bone boiled some more
(choo-choo-ah, choo-choo-ah)
'cause the way you cook for me, baby
My stomach got sore
(choo-choo-ah, choo-choo-ah)

I'm goin' on the river and I'm not gonna take you along
(choo-choo-ah, choo-choo-ah)
I'm goin' on the river and I'm not gonna take you along
(choo-choo-ah, choo-choo-ah)
'cause I need somebody to help me sing this song
(choo-choo-ah, choo-choo-ah)

I may be blue but I won't be blue no more
(choo-choo-ah, choo-choo-ah)
I may be blue but I won't be blue no more
(choo-choo-ah, choo-choo-ah)
'cause when I come home, somebody's gotta go
(choo-choo-ah, choo-choo-ah)

Bye bye , baby, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye
(choo-choo-ah, choo-choo-ah)
Bye bye bye, baby, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye
(choo-choo-ah, choo-choo-ah)
I said bye bye, baby, bye bye baby goodbye
(choo-choo-ah, choo-choo-ah)

4.Do I Worry?

Do I Worry
Ink Spots

Do I worry cause you're stepping out
Do I worry cause you got me in doubt
Though your kisses aren't right, do I give a bag of beans
Do I stay home every night and read my magazine

Am I frantic, cause we lost that spark
Is there panic when it starts turning dark
And when evening shadows creep, do I loose any sleep over you
Do I worry, you can bet your life I do

Do I worry when the iceman calls
Do I worry if Niagra Falls
Though you treat me just like dirt
You think I give a snap
Are my feelings really hurt
When you're sitting in somebody else's lap
Am I curious when the gossip flies
Am I furious bout your little white lies
And when all our evenings end
Cause you got a sick friend that needs you
Do I worry, honey, you know dog gone well I do

Am I frantic, cause we've lost that spark
Is ther panic when it starts turning dark
And when evening shadows creep
Do I lose any sleep over you
Do I worry, you can bet your life, I do

5.Don't Get Around Much Anymore

Lyricist:Edward Ellington, Bob Russell

When I'm not playing solitaire
I take a book down from the shelf
And what with programs on the air
I keep pretty much to myself

Missed the Saturday dance
Heard they crowded the floor
Couldn't bare it without you
Don't get around much anymore

Oh, darling, I guess
My minds more at ease but never the less
Why stir up memories, been invited all day

Might have gone but what for
Awfully different without you
Don't get around much anymore

Oh, darling, I guess
My minds more at ease but never the less
Why stir up memories, been invited all day

Might have gone but what for
Awfully different without you
Don't get around much anymore
Don't get around much anymore
Don't get around much anymore

6.Honey Moon

Honey Moon
The Ink Spots

ANOTHER obscurity. One cannot tell exactly who may have written
it or who
charted it. All's I know is that it's on a 3-LP collection by

Honey moon, honey moon
Wonder why you fade so soon
Hearts are broken when you die
Ho-o-0-oney moon

MONOLOGUE: Honey moon, I said honey moon. I wonder why you fade
so
doggone soon. Hearts are broken when YOU die. Honey moon!

Sadder days, wiser men
Watch ya fade away and then

As long as I have you

I'll get by, oh yes, honey child, I'll get by
Just as long as I have you
And remember though there be rain

In the shade of the old apple tree
Where the love in your eyes I could see
When the voice that I heard like the song of a bird
Seemed to whisper sweet music to me

I could hear the dull buzz of the bee
In the blossoms as you said to me
'With a heart that is true, I'll be waiting for you'
'In the shade of the old apple tree'

I could hear the dull buzz of the bee
In the blossoms as you said to me
'With a heart that is true, I'll be waiting for you'
'In the shade of the old apple tree'

11.Maybe

Lyricist:Allan Flynn, Frank Madden

Maybe you'll think of me when you are all alone
Maybe the one who is waiting for you
Will prove untrue, then what will you do?

Maybe you'll sit and sigh, wishing that I were near
Then maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say, 'Maybe'

Maybe you'll think of me when you are all alone
Maybe the one who is waiting for you
Will prove untrue, then what will I do?

Maybe you'll sit and sigh, wishing that I were near
Then maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say, 'Maybe'

12.People Will Say We're In Love

Roberts
Sung in the film 'Oklahoma' by Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones

Don't throw bouquets at me
Don't please my folks too much
Don't laugh at my jokes too much
People will say we're in love

Don't sigh and gaze at me
Your sighs are so like mine
And your eyes mustn't glow like mine
People will say we're in love

Don't start collecting things
Give me my rose and my glove

Well, sweetheart, they're suspecting things
People will say we're in love

13.To Each His Own

Lyricist:Ray Evans, Jay Livingston

A rose must remain with the sun and the rain
Or its lovely promise won't come true
To each his own, to each his own
And my own is you

What good is a song if the words just don't belong
And a dream must be a dream for two
No good alone, to each his own
For me there's you

If a flame is to grow there must be a glow
To open each door there's a key
I need you, I know, I can't let you go
Your touch means too much to me

Two lips must insist on two more to be kissed
Or they'll never know what love can do
To each his own, I've found my own
One and only you

If a flame is to grow, there must be a glow
And to open each door there's gotta be a key
I need you, I know, I can't let you go
'Cause honey your touch means too much to me

Two lips must insist on two more to be kissed
Or they'll never know what love can do
To each his own, I've found my own
One and only you

When my sugar walks down the street
The little birdies go 'Tweet, tweet, tweet'

All the birdies go 'Tweet, tweet, tweet'
And in the evenin' when the sun go down

15.When The Swallows Come Back To Capistrano

When The Swallows Come Back to Capistran
Ink Spots

When the swallows come back to Capistrano
That's the day you promised to come back to me
When you whispered, 'Farewell', in Capistrano
Twas the day the swallow flew out to sea

All the mission bells will ring
The chapel choir will sing
The happiness you'll bring
Will live in my memory
When the swallows come back to Capistrano
That's the day I pray that you'll come back to me

All the mission bells will ring
The chapel choir will sing
The happiness you'll bring
Will live in my memory
When the swallows come back to Capistrano
That's the day I pray that you'll come back to me

Whispering Grass

Words by Fred Fisher and Music by Doris Fisher

Peaked at # 10 in 1940
Competing version by Erskine Hawkins managed # 13

Why do you whisper, green grass?
Why tell the tress what ain't so?
Whispering grass, the trees don't have to know, no, no

Why tell them all your secrets?
Who kissed there long ago
Whispering grass, the trees don't need to know

Don't you tell it to the trees
She will tell the birds and bees
And everyone will know
Because you told the blabbering trees
Yes, you told them once before
It's no secret anymore

Why tell them all the old things?
They're buried under the snow
Whispering grass, don't tell the trees
'cause the trees don't need to know

MONOLOGUE: Now, don't you tell it to the trees, 'cause they'll
just run 'n' tell the birds and
bees. Then everybody'd know 'cause you told them doggone trees!
Yes you did, you know
you did, ya told 'em once before. Now look atcha, honey child,

18.Sincerely Yours

Lyricist:Will Jason, Sid Robin

Sincerely yours, I sign my heart
Sincerely yours, while we're apart

A friend should whisper things
Let rumors fly
Believe my heart
For darling hearts never lie

Sincerely yours, my love I send
Sincerely yours, until the end
And should you feel as I do
Drop me this line
Sincerely yours, you're mine

Sincerely yours honey, I sign my heart
Sincerely yours, while we're apart

A friend should whisper things
Just let the rumors fly
Believe my heart like you've always done
Remember, hearts never lie

Sincerely yours, my love I send
Sincerely yours, until the end
And should you feel as I do
Drop me this line
Sincerely yours, you're mine

19.If I Didn't Care

Lyricist:Jack Lawrence

If I didn't care more than words can say
If I didn't care would I feel this way?
If this isn't love then why do I thrill?
And what makes my head go 'round and 'round
While my heart stands still?

If I didn't care would it be the same?
Would my every prayer begin and end with just your name?
And would I be sure that this is love beyond compare?
Would all this be true if I didn't care for you?

If I didn't care, honey child, more than words can say
If I didn't care, would I feel this way?
Darlin', if this isn't love, then why do I thrill so much?
And what is it that makes my head go 'round and 'round
While my heart just stands still so much?

If I didn't care would it be the same?
Would my every prayer begin and end with just your name?
And would I be sure that this is love beyond compare?
Would all this be true if I didn't care for you?

20.If I Didn't Care - The Ink Spots

Lyricist:Jack Lawrence

If I didn't care more than words can say
If I didn't care would I feel this way?
If this isn't love then why do I thrill?

Would my ev'ry prayer begin and end with just your name?
And would I be sure that this is love beyond compare?
Would all this be true if I didn't care for you?

If I didn't care honey child, mo' than words can say. If I

21.It's a Sin to Tell a Lie

Lyricist:William Mayhew

Be sure it's true when you say 'I love you'
It's a sin to tell a lie
Millions of heart have been broken
Just because these words were spoken

I love you, yes I do, I love you
If you break my heart I'll die
So be sure it's true when you say I love you
It's a sin to tell a lie

Now, ya better be sure that it's true when you say, I love ya
Honey chile, don'tcha know it's a sin to tell a lie?
Whole lotta hearts have been broken
Ya know why they were broken?

Just for these foolish little words that were spoken
Ya know what they were? I love ya, I love ya
Darlin', ya know doggone well I love ya
And if ya break my heart, I've got to die

So ya better be sure that it's true
When you come runnin' up here sayin', 'I love ya'
'Cause it's a sin to tell a lie

I love you, yes I do, I love you
If you break my heart I'll die
So be sure it's true when you say I love you
It's a sin to tell a lie

22.The Gypsy

Lyricist:Billy Reid

In a quaint caravan
There's a lady they call the gypsy
She can look in the future
And drive away all your fears

Everything will come right
If you only believe the gypsy
She could tell at a glance
That my heart was so full of tears

She looked at my hand and told me
My lover was always true
And yet in my heart I knew dear
Somebody else was kissing you

But I'll go there again
'Cause I want to believe the gypsy
That my lover is true
And will come back to me some day

You see she looked in my hand and told me
That my baby would always true
And yet in my heart I knew dear
That somebody else was kissing you

But I'll go there again
'Cause I want to believe the gypsy
That my lover is true
And will come back to me some day

23.I'll Get by (As Long As I Have You)

Lyricist:Fred E. Ahlert, Roy Turk

I'll get by as long as I have you
Though there be rain and darkness too
I'll not complain, I'll see it through

Poverty may come to me, it's true
But what care I say, I'll get by
As long as I have you

I'll get by, oh yes, honey child, I'll get by
Just as long as I have you
And remember though there be rain
And of course a little darkness too
I ain't never gonna complain
Not me, I'll see it through

Poverty may come to me, it's true
But what care I say, I'll get by
As long as I have you

24.That Cat Is High

Lyricist:J. Mayo Williams

Boys, I'm mellow as a honeydew, yeah

That cat is high
Look at that look in his eye
Oh man, he's high
Yes, higher than a kite

That cat is high
Look at that look in his eye
Man, I wouldn't lie
The cat's higher than a kite

Now when you see him stumblin'
Bubbed in and down the street
You know that cat's been drinkin'
Got no shoes upon his feet

Man he's high
I said that cat is high
Yes, he's high
Man, he's higher than a kite

That cat is high
Look at that look in his eye
Man, I wouldn't lie
That cat's higher than a kite

Boys, he's high
Just look at them two black eyes
You know I wouldn't lie
He's higher than the sky

When you see him tippin'
Round and round the block
Know that cat he's very beat
Hip clean down to his socks

That cat is high
Boys, I wouldn't lie
Oh my, oh my
He's higher than a kite, yeah

Shoot the liquor to me, John Boy

When you see him stumblin'
Up and down the street
You know that cat's been drinkin'
Got no shoes upon his feet

Man, he's high
Yes, he's high, my, oh my
I want the home cookin' mama with the fryin' pan
I know that cat's high, yeah

25.Prisoner of Love

Lyricist:Russ Columbo, Clarence Gaskill, Leo Robin

Alone from night to night you'll find me
Too weak to break these chains that bind me
I need no shackles to remind me
I'm just a prisoner of love

From one command I stand and wait now
From one who's master of my fate now
I can't escape for it's too late now
I'm just a prisoner of love

What's the good of my caring
If someone is sharing those arms with me?
Although she has another, I can't have another
For I'm not free

She's in my dreams awake or sleeping
Upon my knees to her I'm creeping
My very life is in her keeping
I'm just a prisoner of love

What's the good of my caring
If somebody else is sharing those arms with me?
Though you has another, I can't have another
'Cause you see honey, I'm not free

She's in my dreams awake or sleeping
Upon my knees to her I'm creeping
My very life is in her keeping
I'm just a prisoner of love

26.We Three (My Echo, My Shadow, and Me)

Lyricist:Nelson Cogane, Sammy Mysels, Dick Robertson

We three, we're all alone
Living in a memory
My echo, my shadow and me

We three, we're not a crowd
We're not even company
My echo, my shadow and me

What good is the moonlight
The silvery moonlight
That shines above?

I walk with my shadow
I talk with my echo
But where is the one I love?

We three, we'll wait for you
Even 'til eternity
My echo, my shadow and me

We three, we're all alone
Seem like we living in a memory
That's my echo, my shadow and me

We three, we ain't no crowd
Fact is we ain't even company
That's my echo, my shadow and me

You know, I've been wondering
What good is the moonlight
That silvery moonlight
That shines way, way up above

Yeah, I walk with my shadow
I talk with my echo
But where is that gal that I love?

We three, we'll wait for you
Even 'til eternity
My echo, my shadow and me

27.Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall

Lyricist:Doris Fisher, Allan Roberts

Into each life some rain must fall
But too much is fallin' in mine
Into each heart some tears must fall
But some day the sun will shine

Some folks can lose the blues in their hearts
But when I think of you another shower starts
Into each life some rain must fall
But too much is fallin' in mine

Into each life some rain must fall
But too much, too much is fallin' in mine
Into each heart some tears must fall
But some day the sun will shine

Some folks can lose the blues in their heart
But when I think of you another shower starts
Into each life some rain must fall
But too much is fallin' in mine

Into each and every life some rain has got to fall
But too much of that stuff is fallin' into mine
And into each heart some tears got to fall
And I know that someday that sun is bound to shine

Some folks can lose the blues in their heart
But when I think of you another shower starts
Into each life some rain must fall
But too much is fallin' in mine

28.I'm Making Believe

Lyricist:Mack Gordon, James V. Monaco

I'm making believe that you're in my arms
Though I know you're so far away
Making believe I'm talking to you
Wish you could hear what I say

And here in the gloom of my lonely room
We're dancing like we used to do
Making believe is just another way of dreaming
So till my dreams come true

I'll whisper 'Good night'
Turn out the light and kiss my pillow
Making believe it's you

I'm making believe that you're in my arms
Though I know you're so far away
Making believe I'm talking to you
Wish you could hear what I say

And here in the gloom of my lonely room
We're dancing like we used to do
Making believe is just another way of dreaming
So till my dreams come true

I'll whisper 'Good night'
Turn out the light and kiss my pillow
Making believe it's you

And here in the gloom of my lonely room
We're dancing like we used to do
Making believe is just another way of dreaming
So till my dreams come true

I'll whisper 'Good night'
Turn out the light and kiss my pillow
Making believe it's you

29.I'm Beginning to See the Light

Lyricist:Duke Ellington, Don George, Johnny Hodges, Harry James

I never cared much for moonlit skies
I never wink back at fireflies
But now that the stars are in your eyes
I'm beginning to see the light

I never went in for afterglow
Or candlelight on the mistletoe
But now when you turn the lamp down low
I'm beginning to see the light

Used to ramble through the park
Shadowboxing in the dark
Then you came and caused a spark
That's a four-alarm fire now

I never made love by lantern-shine
I never saw rainbows in my wine
But now that your lips are burning mine
I'm beginning to see the light

I never cared much for moonlit skies
I never wink back at fireflies
But now that the stars are in your eyes
I'm beginning to see the light

I never went in for afterglow
Or candlelight on the mistletoe
But now when you turn the lamp down low
I'm beginning to see the light

Used to ramble through the park
Shadowboxing in the dark
Then you came and caused a spark
That's a four-alarm fire now

I never made love by lantern-shine
I never saw rainbows in my wine
But now that your lips are burning mine
I'm beginning to see the light

Beginning to see the light
Beginning to see the light
Now that your lips are burning mine
I'm beginning to see the light

30.My Prayer

Lyricist:Georges Boulanger, James B Kennedy

My prayer is to linger with you at the end of the day
In a dream that's divine, my prayer is a rapture in blue
With a world far away and your lips close to mine

Tonight while our hearts are aglow
Oh tell me the words that I'm longing to know
My prayer and the answer you give, may they still be the same
For as long as we live, that you'll always be there at the end
of my prayer

My prayer is to linger with you at the end of each day
In a dream that's divine, my prayer is a rapture in blue
With a world far away and your lips close to mine

Tonight while our hearts are aglow
Oh tell me the words that I'm longing to know
My prayer and the answer you give, may they still be the same
For as long as we live, that you'll always be there at the end
of my prayer

31.I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire

Lyricist:Bennie Benjamin, Eddie Durham, Sol Marcus, Eddie Seiler

I don't want to set the world on fire
I just want to start a flame in your heart

In my heart I have but one desire
And that one is you, no other will do

I've lost all ambition for worldly acclaim
I just want to be the one you love

And with your admission that you feel the same
I'll have reached the goal I'm dreaming of

Believe me

I don't want to set the world on fire
I just want to start a flame in your heart

32.The Best Things In Life Are Free

The moon belongs to everyone
The best things in life are free
The stars belong to everyone
They gleam there for you and me

The flowers in spring
The robins that sing
The sunbeams that shine
They're yours, they're mine

And love can come to everyone
The best things in life are free

Honey, the moon belongs to everyone
You know the best things in life are free
And the stars, they belong to everyone
They're shining up there for you and for me

The flowers in spring
The robins that sing
The sunbeams that shine
They're yours, they're mine

And love can come to everyone
The best things in life are free
The best things in life are free

33.Bless You

Bless you, for being an angel
Just when it seemed that heaven was not for me

Bless you for building a new dream
Just when my old dream crumbled so helplessly

In that vine covered chapel on the hill
Your face was a hymn that lingered still

So bless you, my darling, my angel
Heaven is mine and life is divine with you

So bless you, my darling, my angel
Heaven is mine and life is divine with you
